The Warrior's Moon: Working with Fire, Finding Balance, and the Medicine of Vitex

The Warrior's Moon: Working with Fire, Finding Balance, and the Medicine of Vitex

The Full Moon in Aries arrives on September 26th, and she is not a quiet moon. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, the spark of life force, the call to adventure. This is the Warrior's Moon, and she asks us to find the courage to stand our ground, take a stance, and draw our boundaries.

This Full Moon is an invitation to begin again. To wrap up an old chapter and prepare to write a new story. And while this Full Moon may be a baptism by fire, it is up to us whether we allow that fire to purify and transform us or consume us.

At Rising Rooted, we are listening. And the garden is speaking.

The Fire of Aries and Its Shadow Period

Aries energy is bold, direct, and unapologetic. This Full Moon may call on us to look at the way we assert ourselves or express anger. Do we express our anger in a clear and direct way, or push it into the shadow where it transmutes into passive aggression, contempt, or resentment?

This is not a time for quieting our fire. It is a time for tending it with intention.

The shadow period of this Full Moon extends through late January, as Saturn re-enters the gate of crisis on September 25th and remains there through the end of the year. This means the themes of this lunation will continue to unfold. The Warrior's Moon is a time of grappling with our demons and learning patience. It is a time to ask ourselves: what fears are holding us back from fighting for what we believe in? What are we currently obsessing over that needs to be released?

As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries symbolizes the individuated life force, the realization of Self as a separate being. This Full Moon invites us to reclaim our creative spark, to birth something new and unique into the world.

But fire, without balance, burns out. And that is where the plants come in.

Vitex: The Plant of Balance

This season, we are honored to offer Vitex tincture and Vitex berries harvested from our own vitex trees here at Rising Rooted.

Vitex, also known as Chaste Tree, is a plant of profound balance. The berries may help stimulate progesterone and normalize estrogen levels, easing menstrual cycle problems, PMS, and symptoms of menopause. The herb has a long history in balancing hormones.

But vitex is more than a hormonal ally. In ancient Athens, women ceremoniously consumed the Vitex berry for purification and balance. Today, its essence is revered for supporting body-mind equilibrium, particularly in alignment with the moon-time cycle. Vitex is used in rituals to connect with feminine energy and honor the cycles of womanhood. The powdered seeds and berries may be added to incense to draw down the moon, and the whole berries may be placed in your ritual cup.

This is a plant that asks us to listen to our bodies, to find balance, and to trust our own rhythms. As the fire of Aries pushes us forward, vitex reminds us to stay rooted.

A Simple Ritual for the Warrior's Moon

If you would like to honor this Full Moon with intention, here is a simple practice:

Brew a cup of vitex tea or take your vitex tincture. As you do, set an intention for balance. What part of you needs to be tended? What fire needs to be tended with care rather than consumed?

Write down what you are ready to release. The Aries Full Moon is a powerful time for letting go of what has been holding you back emotionally. Write it down. Burn it. Let the smoke carry it away.

Move your body. Aries energy is physical. Dance. Stretch. Walk. Let the fire move through you rather than staying stuck in your hips.

Speak the names of your ancestors. As we move deeper into autumn, remember those who came before you. They are listening. They are proud of you.

A Final Word

The Warrior's Moon is a fire. Let it purify you. Let it transform you. Let it remind you of who you came here to be.

But do not let it consume you. Balance the fire with the medicine of the earth. Drink your tea. Take your tincture. Let the plants do their quiet work.

And when you are ready, rise rooted, just as they did.

With gratitude and autumn blessings,

P.S. The Aries Full Moon is a powerful time for releasing what no longer serves you. Write it down. Burn it. And then, step into the bigger room.
