INDIGO & AFRICAN BLOCK PRINTING WORKSHOP

Stamp. Dip. Witness the Blue.

Date & Time: Saturday, August 15, 2026 | 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Location: Rising Rooted Yoga & Herbal Apothecary – outdoor setting under a canopy, with fresh air, natural light, and ancestral magic.

Investment: $125.00

Limited to 10 participants – this intimate workshop will fill quickly.

Step into the world of Stitching the Sun with a half-day, hands-on workshop where you'll learn traditional West African block printing, work with a living indigo vat, and create your own hand-stamped, naturally dyed fabric.

This workshop is inspired by Stitching the Sun: The Granddaughters of Hathor, a visionary Afrofuturist story collection where indigo, copper, and gold are technologies of resistance.

What You'll Learn:

  • Traditional West African block printing techniques

  • How to work with a living indigo vat

  • The cultural and historical significance of indigo in African and African American traditions

  • Hands-on fabric stamping and dyeing methods

What You Take Home:

  • Two hand-stamped, indigo-dyed cotton bandanas (or one scarf)

  • Care card & indigo vat recipe card – so you can keep the craft alive at home

What to Bring:

  • Clothes you don't mind getting blue (indigo does stain!)

  • Closed-toe shoes (for safety around the vat)

  • Hat, sunscreen, water bottle (we'll be outdoors)

  • Your hands and an open heart

No prior experience is necessary. All materials are provided.

Books will be available for pre-order at the workshop.

Reserve your spot today – space is limited to just 10 participants.

“Vitex does not work quickly. It works faithfully. That is the covenant of patience.”
